Speaker 1: we have one signature method and it's a system that everyone goes through but inside of that system it's super custom because we want to get really custom to your brand so you're recognizable you stand out in your
Speaker 2: industry hi I'm Melanie bar welcome to the shiled experience with Melanie you're here because you want to experience the life and business that you crave join me as I talk to women who have successfully built it a career and business that they love we dive into the topic of how they built it and talk about everything from Having the courage to make career leaps to the details of how to lead effectively create successful teams Implement strategies for growth and Infuse Tech Innovation magic happens when we focus on the part of ourselves and our business that brings us joy so let's dive in LC frier is the co-founder of Workplay branding she works with entrepreneurs and business owners to create their brand get clear on who they are and build their communities clients have described her work as helping them to get the look they've always envisioned for their brand thank you for joining us L you are the co-founder of Workplay branding tell us about it and what led you to create
Speaker 3: and launch your business yeah thank you so much for having me like you said I co-founded Workplay branding it is a Content creation company so we travel all over the country and the world World we're expanding into Europe at the end of the summer we go all over creating content for business owners and we really started off as more of a full service branding business so we did logos brand messaging photo all of these things coming together into one package and then we wanted to make it scalable for the average person because these packages were five grand and up and so we turned it into to more of a Content membership subscription model that's $4.97 a month and then that's where it really took off because now the average online business owner who maybe is on a budget doesn't have enough money to Shell out three grand for a photo shoot can now just create content consistently and create this really recognizable brand so we're super excited about where
Speaker 2: that's all headed and that's so smart because sometimes even smaller businesses need what the larger businesses have and like you said it's really hard to access those things
Speaker 3: sometimes 100% yeah we just did a campaign for one of our members she did a video shoot and a photo shoot Allin one so our members can choose between photo or video she created this beautiful campaign for her launch and it's getting such high engagement right now as she's launching it because she is standing out in the online space she created her photo shoot around like different themes for this launch and so it's just such an amazing way to stand out and it looks so high quality Lux and it's $4.97 a month for her which is
Speaker 2: insane you help Brands get clear on who they are there are also Brands who
Speaker 1: Rebrand themselves throughout their company lifespan whether someone is new or looking to Rebrand or refresh what do you think are the first steps in doing
Speaker 2: this definitely I don't think a logo is all that important to be honest I think it's more about like the product and how you're showing yourself and how you're showing that product and how you're marketing that product now in this space you really have to stand out and you really have to grab people's attention and then they also have to recognize you so I would
Speaker 2:
- say the first thing I would invest in photography to actually showcase what you do to the world in a very polished way because that's going to change the way people perceive you I also think
- that getting down a color palette can do wonders you don't need to go spend thousands of dollars for someone to create a color palette for you go on to Pinterest literally you could go on to Workplay brandings Pinterest and we have a whole Board of like color palettes just choose one and go with that because now you're going to have something cohesive and something to go off of the last thing that you want to do is hold up a launch or something that you're doing in your marketing and sales cuz you can't decide on the colors there's so manye three things that you can do
- before you heavily invest in someone doing a Rebrand so I would say color palette and visuals are key when you're just starting out and you're trying to Brand yourself and then I would try to find photographers that can create something that's a custom edit for you that's based off of those color palettes because that's honestly going to help you brand those things cuz the content is always the Catalyst for the marketing which is always the Catalyst for the sales
Speaker 2: so if you can get your visuals in your content really solid you can now amplify whatever you're doing in your Marketing in your sales with actual tangible visual content that's going to stand out that's going to feel like you I'm biased to like the photography with your online business but it's really the packaging around what you're offering I use this analogy a lot of fine dining versus hole-in-the-wall restaurant both really great food and you go to them for different things but you go to them for different experiences and so if people can already perceive you as like the fine dining restaurant they're going to expect your prices to be a little bit higher they're going to expect you to deliver excellence and you can charge for that and so just that little shift can do wonders for your brand and how
Speaker 1: people talk about you so great and that's such a good example and you're right colors can be recognizable too and when you have those down it just becomes so much easier across Ross your social media and your marketing channels and I'm sure your clients can repurpose the content that you're creating too and it can go a really long way as far as
Speaker 2: marketing and branding yes you can get a base and repurpose that over and over again or you can really dive deep into each shoe and make a campaign that's going to stand out for that launch so you can of course reuse those now that the consumer is more Savvy they want to be entertained they want to see something fresh something new having refresh content that's very specific to a certain campaign can actually make your launches or whatever you're marketing even better or if you have an evergreen offer that's just constant you just sell the same thing think about the seasons in a year you need to Market different things you need to have different types of positionings for different times in the year to get the attention like in the summertime your marketing better be different than what it is around Christmas time and with visuals you can really dive deep into what summer marketing looks like versus what Christmas marketing looks like and
Speaker 1: you're so right our attention spans are what 3 seconds today I know someone doesn't grab my attention they've lost me pretty quickly so walk us through your business and what a client would
Speaker 2:
- receive for the monthly fee yeah I'm going to go in order we have one signature method and it's a system that everyone goes through but in inside of that system it's super custom because we want to get really customed to your brand so you're recognizable you stand out in your industry so the first thing that we do is we Define what the brand identity is and a five color palette and a font Duo so two fonts that you're going to use on like your graphics and the five colors that are going to be used showcase what visually your brand is going to look like color-wise so we plan that out with you now if you already have something like this in place already paid the designer that's no problem we still want to see it put it into our own brand board so that our team is understanding stylistically what your brand is we take that and we use that as a foundation moving forward so
- then we also plan your entire content Creation Day with a brand shoot agenda so we're scouting the locations based off of that brand board what's going to be on brand for you we're also taking a look at what are you doing in your business for that quarter so what are the launches coming up what campaigns are you doing and it could be as small as oh I'm wanting to launch a lead magnet so I need content for that lead Magnet or I'm changing up my sales page so I need fresh new content for the sales page whatever goal that you're doing in your business for that quarter so we plan the entire Branch you agenda based off of that by location shot list items creative direction for each location inspiration shot list pictures for each location so you feel super prepared it's like a 25 to 30 page document it's pretty insane but then you come to the shoe understanding what you're doing and the content creator on our team understands what what you're wanting and everything's just so organized so that leads me into the
- third step which is actually shooting the content so when we shoot the content we are with you all day and we travel to
Speaker 1: you so we have content creators all over the country you pick what type of content you want to create either photo or video for the day and we shoot based off of that brand shoot agenda based off that shot list either photo or video after that full day we shoot from 10: a.m. to 5:00 P p.m content creator goes home and then you receive all of your content in seven business days and it's all custom edited based off of that brand board that we determined at the beginning so you have a custom edit it only looks like you it's really like the tones everything is so custom and that's to create this cohesive look between all of your marketing channels and your entire business online so that's where things become very recognizable people start to see you people see your content they're like oh I already know that's you because it has that style that no one else has we then deliver that content to you you get everything fully edited between 600 to 1,000 photos or 130 to 150 videos are delivered to you in seven business days you pick out your favorites and then we create a Content calendar out of those favorites and then schedule out all of that content for you for the next quarter on a thirdparty scheduling app or The Meta business Suite so we do all of that on a quarterly basis four times a year and it's a year long most people renew because they just get into a system with it but it is for a year so you can really get that consistency like I said it's a lot but that is all for the 4.97 price point and then we have upgrades from there if you want to launch with like email podcasting Pinterest all of those things we can launch your content through those channels it's just a little bit of an upgrade but that's for the Bas pricing and that's so great because creating content can be exhausting and I'm a big fan of overcommunication and I'm sure it makes your days just that much more successful
Speaker 2: when everyone's on the same page totally
Speaker 1: and even communication with our team so a lot of people will hire a brand photographer only have communication with them maybe a few days before the shoot and then they get their content delivered maybe a month later and they never hear from them again it's because that photographer is only doing one job with us we're one system and one team so you're constantly communicating with the Workplay team we have one-on-one Voxer group chats five days a week and so you're constantly being supported by our
Speaker 2: team and do you create copy to go with
Speaker 1: the social or is that on the business owner yes you can hire us for for the copy that would be an upgrade honestly I'm like a big firm believer and if you're on social media it should be your voice I see a lot of people hiring copywriters for social media content and they're confused wondering where all of their engagement is because your audience can feel when it's not you so I always tell people even if you do buy the copywriting upgrade for all of your social media go in there and use it as a template and insert your own voice into that because people can really feel that
Speaker 2: so I love copywriting I love copywriters and I think they're great for like sales Pages websites but when it comes to social media and you're like oneon-one talking with someone in your audience I think it definitely has to come from you but we do have upgrades for that and we can help with that if you want I
Speaker 1: completely agree sometimes it's nice to have a starting off point though when you wake up and you need to put something out and you're like okay where do I start with this 100% but I completely agree with you can tell if it's not coming genuinely from the person or the brand 100% what do you
Speaker 2: like the most about brand development and what you do oh I love everything branding can get so deep so fast your brand is really who you are and how you show yourself to the world it's how people are talking about you it's how people see you how they perceive you so you might as well just create it intentionally when you focus on on that it has Ripple effects throughout your entire business and you start to stand up a little straighter you start to see yourself as that business owner so seeing people go through that transformation is just the best thing to me they're finally charging what they believe their worth and their business and their product and service is worth they're finally saying hey I will step into that networking group with confidence because I have this brand that's so amazing behind me me it's hard to get there without seeing it visually in front of you first and so I see that transformation happen with all of our members because everything is so done for you you will see that transformation and so seeing people outwardly visually complete that transformation and then seeing how it transforms them
Speaker 1: on the inside that's intense that's so cool to me I love that it has to be so fun to help people in that way and to inspire them in that way everyone wants to look good everyone wants their business to look good that's such a human nature thing and it's if you just embrace the fun of getting to create that for your business it does wonders and it's so smart of you to take an agency perspective and make it accessible it's really smart because there's so many personal Brands and smaller businesses that really aren't that small maybe they're generating a lot of Revenue but they need the more personal touch to work with them
Speaker 2: 100% we've found a way to make it accessible in a really high quality way that's going to impact people so we're
Speaker 1: running with it I love it you have a co-founder Tracy share with us how you work together and what are your individual strengths that complement
Speaker 2: each other yeah Tracy is my mom we are motherdaughter Duo it's a lot of fun in so many ways I think that it's been one of our secret ingredients to scaling and growing work play because we're so honest with each other and we're able to Duke it out if we need to Duke it out or we're able to really get in sync with one another with the vision and always have that really strong Foundation we're
Speaker 1: not going to let each other fall when you bring in a partner whether it's your mom your friend or a business partner that you trust without that tie to one another I've seen partnership sh just crumble what's really unique about us is that we're very Visionary but we're also like in our own Lanes in the business as well so we work off of each other really nicely our strengths and our weaknesses complement each other for example I feel like I am more of like an integrator CEO an integrator is essentially someone who like takes your vision and operationally integrates it into the business for you and it's a very interesting Dynamic with a Visionary and an integrator in a business but when you get it right it's amazing what we have is we have a CO Sierra who's been with us since the beginning of time and so what I tend to do is I integrate with our Co and my mom who is my co-founder as Visionaries so I'm that bridge and that honestly helps us to move really steadily and fast and so all being Visionary mode with my mom and then I'll be in Systems Operations with Sierra so I'm that bridge my mom is very big picture very Visionary can be like oh yeah let's go for it and I'm a little bit more cautious and so it's a nice like balance between the two so that's how we balance each other out but like without one or the other it just doesn't really work that's got to be so
Speaker 2: good to have all of those strengths together because you're right not everyone is good at everything but it's great that you can take your strengths and bring them together in a way that makes your business successful and I've heard other people say that our mother daughter teams the same thing you said about bringing in a partner and how that canot work out it's really fun that you can work together and I have a daughter and it would be really fun to start a business with her one day magic happens when we focus on the part of ourselves and our business that brings us joy what is one way that you make sure to find
Speaker 1: and live your joy each day I love this question being present in the moment as Visionaries we can be very in the future and so you're just constantly in the future what are we going to do in three months what are we going to do in Q3 Q4 and it's like q1 we can get stuck in the future and so just being very present has been really helpful for me to be like okay I'm super busy I've been in three different airports over the course of 5 days what is joyful about this and I think when you just sit in the present moment be like okay look what I built look what I'm doing you can really find joy in that and then my last thing around that is being very strict with my boundaries around weekends because weekends for me are my sacred time so it doesn't matter what type of opportunity it is I'm going to have my weekends and just being very strict with that and carving out time for yourself and then on my weekends I literally sit and do nothing and it's amazing granted I travel like all the time doing is really amazing for me personally so whatever really fills up the cup make time for that and I know that's so like cliche and everyone says that but I do think that you can get into a rhythm or a routine of not doing that and that's when the burnout happens and so because I keep those boundaries sometimes if I want to if I feel like it I can work for 12 hours a day for 3 Days street whatever that productivity looks like that week and I don't feel bad or I don't feel burnt out because I already carved out that time to be able to do that so I would say that keeps the work joyful as well while
Speaker 2: I'm in the zone that's such good advice and I've started to put my phone away sometimes and growing up my mother worked full-time and I watched her she took one day on the weekends and did nothing at all like you said it's okay to say no sometimes we need to protect our space and make sure we're making that space for ourselves yes doing nothing is very underrated I just like sitting there doing nothing no one's talking to you it's amazing I know in this in the social media World taking time to do nothing is so important I've started to put my phone away I've started to read more books because I'm looking at a screen and I'm sure you are too and I can tell with how driven you are that it's really smart to balance it with that time of doing nothing that's when we let what we really want to make happen sink into our minds if we're constantly distracted we those goals and those big dreams don't really come to us
Speaker 1: as easily yeah you need a lot of spaciousness as a CEO the hardest time in business is when you're growing and you have to manage a team if you have team members client work and then also be the CEO if you look at corporate companies the CEO is not doing the work they're not wearing all the hats it's a very specific role and so in order to actually be in that role in as a small business bus owner you have to make sure you have spaciousness to sit down and be like okay I'm CEO mode right now what do I need to look at and CEOs like I said not doing the client work so that's not you in CEO mode if you're doing your own client work that's not you in CEO mode if you're managing your team so you really need space to look at things in a Visionary way to even honestly be effective and so that time alone is super super important but it's very hard when you are the one wearing all the hats and that is just a part of growing a business there is a season where you do wear all the hats so I get it but like if you know that you're in your That season you can really relax into it and be like okay I have to make this time in order to get out of this season
